Lifestyle of Reykjavik
The most spectacular trip in my life or how I came to Iceland for a volunteer project. Part 1.
Soo my journey started in Reykjavik. A volunteer program was gonna begin the next day, so I spent my day by walking and taking pictures of everything (and every single person) I saw.
It was a bit surprising to meet other Russian speakers there. The first person I met was a guy from Moldova in the central square's cafe (maybe he understood that I'm Russian from my accent). But it's always very nice to hear your mother-tongue, especially if you are far away from home:)
Later I had a conversation with a woman from Latvia. She told me that a lot of people (mostly from Eastern Europe) come to Reykjavík to earn money and after two years they move to another European countries like Spain, buy houses and stay there. Sounds nice, (after her words I started to think about it too) but for people who didn't grow up on that land, Icelandic lifestyle and climate are really hard to get used to.
At first - Reykjavik's entertainment. All the bars, restaurants, clubs and so on are closed at 1 A.M. on weekdays (despite the fact that the amount of tourists raises every year). So you won't find A SINGLE working place at night (if you find, please tell me). Sometimes you may be lucky to see bars, that are open till 3 A.M. By the way, local bars are veery atmospheric, and it often comes with Icelandic live music, which I can say for sure is the thing they make professionally.
All in all, people who are used to partying all night long during vacation time may find Icelandic way of thinking "If I go to bed late, tomorrow I won't wake up" a bit boring. In my opinion, it's rational. But even during the day when streets must have a lot of visitors and locals around, this city doesn't look crowded, seems like it has enough space for everyone who is looking for it. And you know, that's amazing!
Of course it depends on why you are traveling there. If your purpose is to see beautiful nature and enjoy the peaceful city then you will definitely like it!
P. S. The photo below has midnight sunset:)
